In the beginning of the 2025-26 basketball season, our Cobras have faced some formidable teams, yielding varied results, nevertheless representing our school honorably through it all. Our teams have faced some jarring injuries–most notably, senior Milad’s scary dive during the boy Cobras’ second match. I have cherished watching and playing alongside all of these wonderful people and talented athletes. In the preseason, I was dismayed by the lack of enthusiasm toward a sport I believe to be so beautiful, rhythmic and exciting as one of three returning players on the Girl Cobras’ team. After playing for a month, I am proud to admit how shortsighted I was in passing that first judgement and It is my hope to convey what I have witnessed in this article as of December 5th 2025.
On November 11th, the ladies played Austin’s Waldorf as their season-opener and came out with a 25-38 loss. While this result may not have been the preferred outcome for our Upper School girls, the effort and perseverance I witnessed left us all with an excited feeling for the upcoming season. The team played extremely hard and especially senior Breleigh, who finished as the team’s highest scorer with 14 points! Netting three threes, two twos and a free throw landed her this amazing accomplishment. Freshmen Piper, Nyla and Caitlin, as well as sophomore Paloma, all also landed on the scoreboard for this exciting game.
In the boys’ first match, they were able to net 60 against Waldorf’s 45 in an exciting win. The game followed fierce competition from both sides; however, the Cobras dominated for the entirety of the game. Senior Jack shone as the game’s overall lead scorer, adding 26 points to the Cobras’ side. Contributions from seniors Milad, Max, Gavriel, junior Grayson, and sophomores Ethan and Esad all aided in this monumental victory for the Cobras!
On November 13th, the New Braunfels Thunder team served as impressive competitors for the girl Cobras’ first home game. Yet again, senior Breleigh dominated the scoreboard with an impressive 21 points! Freshman Nyla also contributed a spectacular 8 points, as the girls’ second lead scorer! Unfortunately, the game ended in New Braunfels’ favor.
The following day, the boys’ team delivered a smashing victory of 52-28 against Living Rock in Bulverde! The top scorer of the game was senior Jack with 18 points, although seniors Max, Milad and Gavi, as well as junior Grayson and sophomores Ethan and Esad all contributed to this victorious accomplishment. These games concluded the November matches for the season, and both teams enjoyed a well-deserved fall break.
Following this two-week period of rest, both teams entered December with a fighting spirit! The girls played a tough First Baptist side on December 5th. Although it ended in a disappointing result, the girls fought until the very end, and the win for First Baptist was not easily achieved. On this same day, the boys played St. Paul, which ended in a close 48-50 score, where the boys were unable to get the edge on their opponents.
Our basketball teams have had a tough season so far and I commend all the players on their hard work! I am sure that these efforts will be paid off in the coming year, as the season progresses. Through head injuries, double-doubles and miracle threes, our peers have fought and they have proven they are worth the watch! I am rooting for the teams always–go Cobras!
